Emotions of ungovernability

Four months of negotiations and changes in strategy by the representatives of the main political parties haven’t been enough in order to achieve an agreement that gets enough confidence in the Chamber to form a government. In order to exhaust all possibilities before calling new elections which may reflect an ungovernable country, the King of Spain began a new round of consultations on Monday 25, which has proved a failure. From Emotion Research Lab we wanted to analyze the emotions of ungovernability of Spain.

This new round of consultations has revealed what many already proclaimed, form a government in Spain with such a level of political fragmentation seems to be impossible, so from now starts a new pre-campaign period and a second chance for political parties. This period, as was demonstrated yesterday at the press conferences after the meeting with the King, will be marked by the attempt to convince the voters of who was the responsible of the new elections. In relation, the emotions of the leaders of the main political parties vary in terms of their self-worth of the strategies carried out to date and to what degree can benefit them a new call in the polls, although they all show a high level of activation.

Emotions of ungovernability

Thus, the predominant emotion in Albert Rivera is EMBARRASSMENT. This may result from the sense of failure having been one of the coalition members who did not get enough confidence in the attempted investiture of Pedro Sanchez.

Moreover, ECSTASY showed by Pablo Iglesias would result of a good self-rated of the moderation strategy. In addition, the party can get benefited from the situation that has come since polls suggest that the number of voters will increase and even more if Podemos finally reach an agreement with IU-Unidad Popular.

Sanchez, however, shows SERENITY. Somewhat surprising because of the difficult situation in which the PSOE is after failing in the attempt to form a government and the internal disputes that have occurred within the party around strategies that should follow the leader. However, the representative may feel that he has done everything possible to get “the government of change” and he may have a clear conscience blaming Podemos of the situation of ungovernability in which Spain is.

Finally, it is not surprising the SATISFACTIONfelt by Mariano Rajoy as his main political opponent has failed in his mission to achieve a government. The leader of the Popular Party chose not to take risks and leave the difficult political situation to Pedro Sanchez where was and is Spain. So he can also wear down the socialist leader blaming him because he failed. Likewise, the Partido Popular, as has been seen in some polls, also will get benefited, and is still the main political force in the country.

After exhausting all possibilities in order to reach a government in Spain a new period of pre-campaign has started. We will follow all the strategies that of the main political representatives will carry on with the purpose of overcoming the political fragmentation to new elections on June 26th.
