Macri’s emotional speech in ordinary sessions

Mauricio Macri was presented as the new president of Argentina before the Legislature Assembly of Congress with a speech based on positive emotions to publicize his agenda and the proposals his government has in mind for Argentina to progress. On the other hand, despite being a distant politician to scandals, he did not miss that moment and he used it to refer to the inheritance from the previous Kirchner’s saga governments. For an hour, Cambiemos’ leader showed his proposals and from Emotion Research Lab, we analyze Macri’s emotional speech in ordinary sessions.

Macri’s emotional speech in ordinary sessions

Macri mentioned all the hot topics of Argentina’s current situation and reforms he wants to take to solve them. He spoke of corruption, drug trafficking, received inheritance, statistics, inflation, public employment, insecurity or fiscal deficit. He drew a rough description of the current situation and the diagnosis made by the governments of Néstor and Cristina Kirchner, were not much better. Nevertheless, Macri urged Argentines and all the members of the Congress, close to his ideas or not, not to be pessimistic despite the situation and work united so that all together can improve country’s prospects .

Using facial emotion recognition technique, we can see as the first part of the analyzed speech, INDIGNATION and CONSTERNATION are the main emotions shown by Macri; however, SURPRISE is the primary emotion that the Argentine president shows more clearly but also he shows FEAR in his speech. Macri said “we are together, we are together the government and citizens, citizens with each other and this president with 40,000,000 Argentine people forming the team that will change  history”.These emotions are consistent with his verbalization, because despite to feel optimistic and point out their desire for changem he knows to unite Argentines will not be easy and he will find stones on the road.

BETRAYAL appears at the time of the speech in which he said that “everything can change” in a clear reference to the improvement of the country before Kirchner’s governments. Betrayal is a combination of the primary emotions of anger and sadness and it reaffirms the desire of Mauricio Macri that the situation will change after winning elections on November 22 against Daniel Scioli and in Emotion Research Lab we anticipate the possible victory would of PRO leader.

One of the most talked about moments on Macri’s speech was the reference made to the engineer of a metaphor about building a bridge. “I wish I could now say that will build a huge bridge that leads to the frustration, the bitterness of the past to the joy of building this wonderful future, but that bridge can not be built of an engineer, of a single person, that bridge we build all together or will never be built”. Among applause and cheers of related deputies to him in the chamber, the Argentine president made on that link as a metaphor of the connection for the next four years in office wants to create with the people, but always with his will and work. On these moments, SURPRISE is again the predominant emotion but here combined with moments of predominance of ANGER or SADNESS by referring to “frustration or bitterness of the past.” Macri is convinced that he will need the support of all Argentines and all elected people to build that program leading to the Latin American country to growth and he denotes INDIGNATION or CONSTERNATION , because he knows it is something complicated by cracks and divisions that exist in Argentina society for years.

As we already discussed and here is observed, Mauricio Macri is optimistic about the possibility that Argentina changes and improves their both internal expectations and by other countries and improves foreign relations that had been relegated years ago. Macri shows a high percentage of almost 100% of HAPPINESS when he says that “we started and take those small steps”, “because we can, of course we can” and “knowing that we will be able to perform it.” However, again speaking of the “challenges” and calls for “all, absolutely all Members” he shows BETRAYAL and HATE, because as it has already been mentioned, it is not easy to go to support the measures he proposes from now even if they are beneficial to the country.

Macri produced a positive but full of criticism and negative speech address to the previous efforts of Kirchner’s governments. Argentina’s President is convinced that with its openness policies he can achieve the progress of Argentina but is aware that, in a highly fragmented Congress and a divided socially and politically society socially as Argentina is, it will not be easy and he will work hard to gain support and cohesion of all Argentines.
