ARROGANCE of Iglesias has set the meeting that Podemos’ leader had with Mariano Rajoy. Iglesias went relaxed, arguing before reaching they will not support PP “either by active or passive way”. With an already fully decidided position, this meeting was absolutely by protocol but none of them thought change their mind. Rajoy had already made hours before that Ciudadanos abstain in a second vote to facilitate a PP government.
Mariano Rajoy, who had to wait 15 minutes to Podemos’ leader due to traffic of the capital, was SATISFIED. His good levels of activation and confidence showed that before the meeting. Expectations for reaching an agreement was null. His goal was not to convince Pablo Iglesias so this meeting was a step on his way to Moncloa.
Iglesias’ arrogance to Rajoy
General Secretary of Podemos later moved to press his impressions of this meeting. Again he reaffirmed his emphatic refusal to support PP and moved all the weight of the investiture to PSOE. Rivera had already done it and Mariano Rajoy, who will not hesitate to blame it if new elections are called. Iglesias warned Socialist Party that they will become “in a partner” of PP if it abstains. Leader of Podemos, continues to try to weaken the party of Pedro Sánchez. Being able to lead the opposition to PP is one of the goals of Podemos. Again he reminded PSOE that if they can not be the opposition if they “make Rajoy President”. Moreover, as they did after 20D elections, Iglesias has again proposed PSOE a coalition of leftist forces in the government. A complicated coalition that will have, in addition to Unidos Podemos, ERC, Convergència and PNV.
Following meetings with Iglesias and Rivera, Mariano Rajoy will meet in the coming hours with Pedro Sánchez. Socialist leader is aware that the formation of a government in Spain is in its hands. Rajoy also is conscious that remain Prime Minister, depends on the abstention of PSOE and try to convince it. Again, two-party predominance has the keys to the government of Spain.
